It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we pay tribute to Sensei Steve Trussell, who tragically and unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Steve was an integral part of Southport Karate Academy for many years, and his loss is deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing, training with, and learning from him.
Sensei Steve was far more than a dedicated martial artist and instructor; he was a respected mentor, loyal friend, and a constant source of encouragement and inspiration to those around him. His passion for karate, commitment to personal growth, and enthusiasm for life left a lasting impression on students and fellow instructors alike. Through his patience, discipline, and unwavering positivity, he helped shape not only skilled martial artists but also confident and respectful individuals.
Steve’s presence within the academy brought energy, camaraderie, and genuine warmth. Whether leading a class, supporting fellow members, or sharing laughter with friends, he approached every moment with kindness, humility, and dedication. The countless memories created alongside him will continue to be cherished by all whose lives he touched.
Beyond the dojo, Steve was a devoted family man whose love and pride for his family were evident to everyone who knew him. During this incredibly difficult time, our heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences are with Charlotte, his boys, and all of his family and loved ones.
While words cannot ease the sorrow of such a sudden loss, we take comfort in remembering the extraordinary person Steve was and the remarkable legacy he leaves behind. His spirit, teachings, and friendship will remain a lasting part of Southport Karate Academy and the wider community for many years to come.
